We have this opportunity in our country to dream and pursue those dreams. The American Dream is what we live every day. But do we forget what some of the basics of it are?
Freedom of speech, life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. Just about every day we look at our smartphones, google whatever’s on our mind, we go where we want, choose what we want to eat.
Pizza, burger, chicken, veggie pasta, sushi, salad?
If we’re down on our luck and our options are limited, we come up with creative ways to make things better. We figure it out. We ask and we look for help. We make phone calls. We search all the resources we have at our fingertips.
Almost daily, we engage in conversations, laugh at something hillarious, decide what we will wear. We both want and have this chance to live life everyday on our own terms.
We make plans, and lots of them. Where we want to travel to, with who and for how much.
We talk to our partners, think about who we love or want to love, wonder if they’re going to call. Whatever is tugging at our interest we look it up. Sometimes, we are captured by the beauty of someone or something else, and we indulge it for a while.
We wonder what it might be like to taste, touch, and feel it.
All these little things we fill our days with is the dream. We have it all even before we “have it all”. We get to make our homes more beautiful, improve our station in life, make more money, work more hours, fix our hair.
It’s a choice, and then it’s a given too. This life we live every single day is the dream quite literally. We get to make it matter and we have the right to pursue whatever will make us happy.
And we have the right to do that without being stopped by someone else. Freedom, in big and small ways; this American dream.
